Can anyone tell me:
1) Am I right about how this is formed?
2) How common is it?
3) Does it have a name?
This was on the north side of Loch Chiarain, above the Blackwater Reservior, at the opposite end from the bothy, a couple of weekends back. After a slight panic that I'd disturbed the habitat of some previously unidentified giant and potentially man-eating Highland snail I decided it was dead grass and leaves getting blown into the loch, getting churned up until all matted and a bit slimy and decomposed, and then blowing up onto the shore when the winds were particularly wild, where it dried and became a bit more solid. Took me a while to come up with that theory, but it's the best I've got - it was tens of meters long, and stayed intact under its own weight when I lifted it up (on the end of my walking pole, I wasn't touching the stuff in case I was right about the snail)
Any help will be apprecited.
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
